News and Events

2017 Summary- Whoops, well time does fly by!  We were lucky to be able to get some late winter/early spring clinics in with Zuzanna Schrammova, Carine Johns and Henk Glijn. It was particularly exciting to attend a March show and be fit and prepared haha!  Rivka, Ripley, Paris, and Bree with Mikayla all did very well at a hunter schooling show in March - congrats!  July brought a second Schwarzenegger filly for ConfidanteSesta Elemento MW is a powerhouse of a filly who already is looking destined for the hunter ring.  A couple of successful summer hunter shows for Rivka, Ripley, Paris and Bree brought home some prizes and red ribbons. It is so gratifying to see improvement in these youngsters!  The opportunity to hit up a schooling day in Lumsden was also taken advantage of by Rivka, Ripley, Paris and Lucy and all pushed their boundaries and successfully moved up a division, yay! We were introduced to a new clinician in the summer, Ingrid Schulz from Germany who now resides in Alberta and she is equally qualified in dressage, jumpers and eventing so we have been taking full advantage of her clinics at Jenny Ganser's lovely facility near Provost, AB and hope to have Ingrid here in 2018. September saw the CWHBA Showcase in Pelmac Stables, Saskatoon.  Paris, Rivka, and  Salome attended with Paris becoming inspected and accepted into the studbook and winning the jumper materiale.  Salome was inspected with a premium score and took home 2nd place in the Riding Horse Test with fewer than 30 rides on her.  Rivka won the dressage and hunter materiale classes.  October brought about mixed emotions as we wished long time boarder Sam, with Ripley and Paris goodbye as they headed to Langley, BC on a new adventure at a jumping training barn.  While we miss them it is very exciting to take advantage of great opportunities when they arise.  Go Sam!!  October also brought the sale of Rivka to an amateur dressage rider in Alberta, congratulations to Joy Sawyer and Rivka!  Late fall means time to get to work on the young horses and Q'adeau MW aka 'Frenchie' is starting work under saddle while 3 year old Swizzle is starting her groundwork and will get backed.  We have one more Henk Glijn clinic in December to wrap up the year and we are looking forward to an exciting 2018 and hoping to attend some dressage shows!

2016 Quick Summary - We had regular dressage clinics with Henk Glijn all through the year and a couple of super jumping clinics with Carine Johns and Casey Macleod - lots of new info for everyone to process and practice! We welcomed little Welsh pony mare Lucy to our family.  A match made in heaven for Rielle and also a dream come true for our little lesson program as Lucy LOVES kids!  Confidante had a tall and elegant filly by Schwarzenegger, named Soul Sister MW and she is a keeper to develop in the dressage and hopefully jumper rings.  Rivka and Sam's horses Ripley and Paris all attended a few hunter shows and all the youngsters impressed with their keeness and potential.  Our first full year in the new indoor arena was also a dream come true.  In a winter with lots of wind we previously would not have ridden much at all but the hardy prairie riders made great use of the arena and we are fit and ready for early spring shows in 2017!

May 2015 -  Late April brought Olds College English Coaching student, Lana Wilson, to us for her 6 week practicum.  What a wonderful first time experience for us!  Lana proved herself an adept horsewoman demonstrating skills both with young horses and under saddle and especially over fences. She did very well with the beginner students also!  The time flew by, and we achieved a ton of goals.  Rivka is successfully started under saddle, Westwind is now jumping 2'6"+ h/j courses, and our new pasture is finally fenced!  We would like to congratulate Lana on a successful graduation of her course and her new position in Kelowna, BC.   A quick change of plans brought dressage trainer Henk Glijn back for a mini clinic this month.  Riders were able to build on what Henk started when he visited us in March and there were smiles and happy horses all around. :)

April 2015 - Congratulations to Lori from Winnepeg, MB on her purchase of both Ravenna and Wasabi!  We are excited to hear how Ravenna does in the dressage show ring and also can't wait to hear her future pairings as a broodmare.  Lots to look forward to.  Westwind attended his first show, travelling with Bree and Sam Doucette for a fun filled weekend in Moose Jaw, SK.  Sam and Bree brought home accolades in the jumper ring, while young Westwind impressed us all with his great attitude and acceptance of the whole atmosphere, even earning a few ribbons in the baby hunter ring.

January 2015 - Happy New Year!  Apparently last year was busy haha. Fahne had yet another stunner of a filly - Swizzle, by Sir Gregory arrived in May 2014.   Lots of clinics for Ravenna and after another year of consistent training she has developed into a supple, reliable and hard working mare and such a joy to ride!  She attended a weekend dressage and hunter show and did herself proud.  I am looking forward to showing her with more consistency this year. Westwind has been developing ever so nicely!  He won the SK Chapter CWHBA Riding Horse Test in August with a premium score and handled his first outing very well. He also will attend some shows in 2015.  Swizzle went to the CWHBA Showcase as well and was reserve champion of the foal futurity with a fantastic score of 8.25!   Rivka (Raffaello x Fahne) is waiting in the wings to start under saddle this spring.  She's such a lovely character and truly a quality young horse - I'm excited for this year!!  Winter lessons are a go on the warm days, call if you are needing your horse fix ;).  Stable management courses are in the planning stages and will start include Horse Owning 101 for all the new owners (or hopeful almost owners) out there, and either another Prepare to Ride beginners class, or a little more advanced class depending on interest.  Keep in touch!!

April 2014 - Winter was stubborn this year and we are just now getting riding regularly again.  Lessons begin April 7th at Whyley's Guest Ranch on Monday evenings and are full.  Lessons here at the farm are pretty much booked up for the entire spring. Contact Lisa to get on a waiting list!   If you have your own horse or can ride during the day there are a few openings left.  Ravenna is getting fit and we are aiming at some dressage and hunter shows this year.  Westwind has had a few rides and is starting in a full time training program and is entered into a couple of dressage clinics this spring!  Zuzanna Schrammova will be here May 9-11th and June 20-22nd for spring clinics.  Contact Lisa for details.

February 2014 - The "Year of the Horse" is looking like a good one! :)  Beginner Stable Management classes have begun.  We have a great first group of kids.  If you are interested in joining please contact Lisa and if enough are keen we will do another beginner session this spring.  We are also offering a more advanced level of Stable Management to horse owners/intermediate + riders, this will be in March/April 2014.  Please contact Lisa for details.  Spring riding lessons are filled on Monday nights and filling up for the other weekdays too, make sure to let us know if you want to ride!

December 2013 - What a busy year, it has gone by so quickly!  Lots of news to share too.  We welcomed tiny Cayenne to the farm, she will be teaching our own children as well as smaller students.   Rain Belle has been sold to a competitive dressage trainer in BC.  Ravenna finally had a full season of attention and training and took part in several dressage and hunter clinics as well as her first show. Fahne had a lovely filly late in June and not to be outdone Confidante had her filly the next day - both mares were 3 weeks early!  Welcome to Salome and QadeauSalome went to the CWHBA SK Chapter Showcase and won the Foal Futurity with an exceptional score of 8.5 while Qadeau spent her summer recovering from surgery.  Both fillies are growing like weeds and ready to wean. Fahne is confirmed in foal to Sir Gregory for 2014, we can hardly wait for that one!   Westwind has been lightly started under saddle and what an exciting young horse he is.  I am really looking forward to the coming months developing him.   Wasabi will be joining the lesson horse line up and she is enjoying having a job again.  We hosted a few dressage clinics with Zuzanna Schrammova of 'Ride Better' again and sincerly hope she can fit us into her increasingly busy schedule in 2014.   Merry Christmas!

March 2013 - Winter is STILL in full force here so training at home is limited to working in the driveway when it gets plowed.  Festivaal, Ravenna, and Westwind are getting some work in.  We welcome Hobbs, a handsome small gelding to start our lesson program with, check out his photos on the Services page!  The Saskatchewan Equine Expo was again well attended, the Breeder Direct and Canadian Warmblood booths had many visitors.  Copper T Warmblood Stables hosted the 'Introduction to Chute Jumping' clinic and we were pleased to have many future Young Breeders attend. Once again Whyley's Guest Ranch has welcomed my client horses so that I can start the spring training sessions before the snow melts - LOVE their indoor arena :).  Lucky me to have 2 beautiful Regardez mares to work with, Rani and my favorite Rain Belle is back.  Rain Belle is offered for sale, she will make a talented small dressage or hunter competitor for a lucky rider, details on Breeder Direct.  The Spring Session Riding lessons start this month at Whyley's Guest Ranch on Monday nights, dress warmly!  Finally we were lucky enough to have a mini clinic on rider biomechanics with Zuzanna Schrammova of Ride Better.  A student of Mary Wanless', she opened up new meaning for me on being a quiet and effective rider, thank you Zu!  We will be having her back regularly for clinics, stay tuned for dates.

November 2012 - 3 horses from the Merrington Warmbloods training program attended another fabulous and insightful dressage clinic with Henk Glijn at Copper T Warmblood Stables at the end of October.  RainBelle, a lovely little client-owned mare with about 2.5 months under saddle impressed everyone with her easy ability and potential, and now she went back home for the winter, but she'll be back for the spring unless some lucky buyer gets her first!  Melissa and Festivaal were rock stars at their first clinic together - what a great partnership that is developing into :).  Ravenna took a turn as well and we are inspired with our developments from Henk's guidance!   Here's to some good weather riding days through the winter!

September 2012 - Summer went quickly with lots going on.  Congratulations to Melissa Smits on her purchase of Festivaal!!  We think it's a great partnership and the best part is he stays here to continue his training until the wintertime.  After a long and somewhat frustrating breeding season Fahne has been confirmed in foal to Sagnol and Confidante is confirmed in foal to Quidam Blue.  We've postponed breeding the Flemmingh mare until 2013 but she is booked to Escudo II.  The Sask Chapter CWHBA Showcase was a great success for us with Rivka earning Reserve Champion in the Foal Futurity.   Fall Session Riding lessons start this month at Whyley's Guest Ranch on Monday nights.

June 2012 - Excitement this spring as Fahne delivered Rivka, a healthy filly by Raffaello this month!  Big congratulations to Andrea Zwarich on her purchase of Savant!  We can't wait to see you both in the show ring.  Big decisions to breed 3 mares this year - Fahne to Sagnol, Confidante to Quidam Blue, and a super opportunity to lease a Flemmingh mare.  Wasabi and Festivaal had great clinics this spring - check out the videos on the sale page.  Finally a big thanks to Jessie St. John for her incredibly efficient assistance this spring.  Jessie is back to work and busy at her own farm  Best of luck to her!!
